The Free University of Bozen – Bolzano, in collaboration with the University of Naples “L’Orientale”, Ethnorêma and the University of Tuscia, is pleased to host the tenth Language Documentation Summer School, to be held in Bozen from 15th to 19th July 2024 (previous editions available here).
The Language Documentation Summer School 2024 (LDSS 2024) aims to provide participants with an introduction to the methods and tools of linguistic fieldwork to document lesser used languages. In continuity and complementarity with the previous editions, particular attention will be paid to a minority language spoken in the region: Ladin.
During the Summer School participants will visit the Fassa Valley, meet people engaged in language documentation and planning at the Istitut Cultural Ladin “Majon di Fascegn” and experiment fieldwork with informants.
Besides an introduction to the Ladin language and community, this year’s lectures will deal with various theoretical and methodological aspects of language documentation in traditional and “new” sociolinguistic settings. Practical training sessions are planned, in which participants will become familiar with two tools used for collecting, processing and analysing linguistic data: FieldWorks and WeSay.
The summer school will be held at the Libera Università di Bolzano – Room F6 Piazza Università, 1 – 39100 – Bolzano, Italia
